Student Computing SupportThis document describes the computing/IT support provided to Morehouse students by the College's IT group, and contains suggestions on interacting with technology at Morehouse.
Questions about this or any other IT matter should be directed to the IT HelpDesk. Morehouse provides wired network connections for every residential student (one per bed in the dorms), wireless connections in some areas, and about 100 seats of general access computer lab space (in Douglass Hall and the Tech Tower). Various academic departments have their own labs that are for use by their majors (about 150 seats total). No support for student computers is provided by the main IT department. We issue a "Network Hookup CD" at the beginning of each Fall semester that includes software that students may find useful (some commercial and paid-for, some not), but provide no support for the items on it. Morehouse's new MCC program (Morehouse Computing Consultants) is a student-run group of guys who are available to help with student computing needs. Any student with any sort of computing problem at all, be it a Morehouse network issue or trouble with a computer at an off-campus residence, is invited to contact the MCCs according to the procedures on the main contact page. If that doesn't appeal, students must contact outside vendors for help with their computers (be that hardware problems, software problems, etc.). To assist with that, Morehouse IT maintains a list of vendors who meet a minimum set of standards and who have provided help to Morehouse students in the past. These folks are not endorsed by Morehouse, nor are they associated with the College in any official capacity. We're making their contact info known here so that students who need help can have a head start. Vendors who wish to appear here should contact us. Students should contact several vendors, compare prices and service delivery methods, and in other ways exercise good judgement when hiring someone to work on their computers. In no particular order (and using color just as a visual effect!), here are some vendors of computer repair services:
Users who have good or bad experiences with any of these or who know others who should be added to the list should let us know so we can update or modify this list as needed. |
